In general
Caregivers are advised to finish kids’meal/feeding 3 hours before the appointment. Due to the nature of dentistry, gag reflex is often found even during checkup or cleaning. It is likely children come in with full stomach will encounter aspiration pneumonia if kids become gaggy and vomit.
We also encourage children go to bathroom before they sit in dental chair. Kids tend to go to bathroom more often under stress. Once treatment is initiated, we need to complete in a timely fashion before local anesthesia wears off (if needed) or little ones out of patience. Going to bathroom before treatment will help tremendously with the flow and reassure children are able to sit a while longer for designated dental work.
